Termites are very common in all parts of Texas. We are very fortunate here in East Texas because we only have one type of Termite, the Eastern Subterranean Termite. The only good thing about these termites is that they work very slowly. When a home is treated by a termite company, the company returns each year to check again for termites as long as the home is under warranty. The home is only inspected once a year because the termites work relatively slow.
You should have your home inspected once a year for termites. This is regardless of if the home has a slab or pier and beam (crawlspace) foundation and regardless of how old the home is.
Termites usually show up in a home within several years of construction. Even newer homes should be inspected regularly.
If your home has been treated before it should be checked annually because products used to treat the home will break down over time, and the treated soil around the house is often moved when doing work, such as landscaping or home improvements and additions. If termites do return to a home that has been previously treated, often times the termites can be treated only at the point of activity saving money for the homeowner.
When your home is inspected the inspector will let you know of any conducive conditions that should be corrected and can stop termites before they ever enter your house.
So the answer is your home or business should be checked once a year for temite activity.
